Bakulesh G. “Buggsi” Patel is the President
and Chief Executive Officer of BHG Hotels, a Wilsonville,
Oregon-based hotel/motel management and consulting firm.
With nearly 20 years of experience in the hotel industry,
Buggsi has ownership interest in 21 hotels in Oregon,
Washington, Idaho, Montana, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, and
California. Two additional properties are currently under
development.
He served as Chairman of the Asian American Hotel Owners’ Association
(AAHOA) in 2000 and has been a member of the Executive
Committee since 1996. He also has been active in numerous
committees of AAHOA. As Chairman of the Communications
Committee, Buggsi was responsible for overseeing the
AAHOA Hospitality magazine and general advertising and
marketing. While Chairman of the Governmental/PAC Committee
in 1998, he was involved in industry issues ranging from
ADA to immigration. Buggsi was also one of the key members
of the Industry Relations Committee, dealing with fair
franchising. In addition, he was involved with the governance
of the association in 2005-2006, which helped bring AAHOA
to a stronger position. And, most recently, he was part
of the governance and strategic planning committee.
In addition, Buggsi is a perennial member and Director
and past Executive Committee member of the American Hotel & Lodging
Association. He also was elected President of the Oregon
Lodging Association in 1997-1998. He was elected to a
second term in 1998-1999, and continues to be active
in the organization.
Buggsi has received numerous accolades for his involvement
in lodging-related causes. These include the AH&LA
Lawson Odde award for dedication to the association,
the AAHOA Award of Excellence in 2005, the Multicultural
and Foodservice Alliance Ernest Royal Award in 2004 for
service to the industry, the AH&LA MVP Award in 1998,
and the Oregon Lodging Association Innkeeper of the Year
award in 1995.
He has been a member of the IAHI since 2001 and has
been a member of the Holiday Inn Express Committee since
2004. Buggsi graduated from the inaugural class of IAHI’s
unique Leadership Institute in 2004.
Buggsi is active in his community, as a supporter of
local schools and sports teams.
