How the IAHI Board and Committees Work….

The IAHI ensures that its members’ opinions are not only heard— but heard loudly. That’s why it developed a system of committees, which report to the Board of Directors and determine the direction the Association will take to fulfill its mission.

“There are more than 200 owners and operators who volunteer their time to serve on one of our 20 different committees, representing nearly 2,700 members,” Ferguson said. “These committees, along with our Board, are responsible for the final endorsement of brand marketing plans, standards, rules of operations, and other important decisions that affect the system.”

In fact, IAHI President Eva Ferguson says there is an opportunity for every member to express their opinion and become involved.

For example, the IAHI recently reviewed the new Holiday Inn advertising campaign, evaluated breakfast offerings and new bedding standards for Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites through its brand committees. The committees work together with IHG to develop recommendations, which are ultimately endorsed by the Board.

The Board also has fiduciary responsibility by overseeing all System Funds used for marketing reservations, and Priority Club Rewards.

“The IAHI is unique in the industry,” Ferguson said. “Other hotel companies have franchise advisory councils that provide one-way communication of corporate information. “The IAHI and IHG work together to exchange ideas, and create or improve programs and plans. The committees allow owners and operators to have a voice on matters that impact all hotels.”

The committees cover the spectrum of brands, issues, and special projects on a global, regional and local level. After identifying the need for operational feedback on GM retention and training, the IAHI created Regional Operations Councils. The Association also added a new technology committee.

“There are plenty of opportunities for members to volunteer on a committee that interests them,” Ferguson said. “Serving on a committee is a stepping stone to being elected to the Board of Directors and playing an even larger role in the direction of the Association and company.”

In addition to IHG senior executives, the Board is comprised of owners and leaders in the hospitality industry from the US, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and EMEA.

“We encourage involvement,” Ferguson said. “just take a look at the committee rosters on myiahi.org, and send a note to info@iahi.org, telling us which committee you’d like to join. With more participation, our Association will be stronger and our opinions will be heard on the issues that impact members’ businesses.” Take a look at the PC Forum section of myiahi.org to see minutes from committee meetings, which are held quarterly.
